Services Provided Engineering & Design, Environmental Services
The Maplewood Landfill is an active MSW landfill with a total facility area of 800 acres that is operated by Waste Management of Virginia, Inc. The facility began accepting waste in 1993 and began operation of a GCCS in 1998. There is a gas to energy plant at the landfill which operates on gas produced by the landfill and small amounts of diesel fuel. The landfill is also permitted to operate two open flares with a total rated capacity of 6,000 scfm. Integrity has provided LFG engineering, construction and compliance services to the facility since 2015.
Landfill Gas Monitoring and Assessment
Integrity performs quarterly (NSPS subject) and semiannual (non-NSPS) Surface Emission Monitoring (SEM) as specified in applicable SEM regulations. During this process we monitor the surface for methane concentrations in excess of 500 parts per million (ppm) above background concentrations as well as penetrations of the landfill cover. Following the required monitoring Integrity provides quarterly reports and maps, and an exceedance summary table.
Landfill Gas System Engineering and Design
Integrity has provided LFG System engineering and design services to the facility since 2015. In 2023 Integrity performed LFG system construction and prepared an as-built drawing to document construction completion.
In 2024 Integrity provided LFG engineering design services to expand the existing collection system in Phases 2, 23, 24, 25 and 26 and made re-drill and pumping recommendations for the site. We supported WMVI by preparing bidding quantities and material take offs as well as other project information, project schedule, bid forms, bid drawings and details. As part of our 2024 engineering work a set of as-built drawings with as-built notes, specific locations for existing LFG infrastructure including header/lateral, air supply and forcemain piping, valves, and existing well/horizontal collector locations was prepared.
Leachate Collection and Treatment Design/Permitting
Integrity’s on-site technician provides weekly operations of the Heartland Leachate Concentrator Unit, which includes tracking volumes of evaporation and residual volumes, implementing the preventative maintenance plan of the unit, providing a centralized inventory of spare parts and preparing monthly reports to the site.
Compliance Monitoring, Sampling and Reporting
Integrity’s routine services include laboratory coordination; field sampling activities including well gauging, micropurging, and sampling; stormwater sampling and reporting; water supply well sampling and reporting; review of water quality data; preparation of potentiometric surface maps; preparation of Statistically Significant Increase Notifications; and preparation and submission of quarterly groundwater reports.
Our additional tasks include the installation and development of new groundwater monitoring wells; installation of new gas monitoring probes; preparation of Alternative Source Demonstrations; and updates to the Facility’s Groundwater Monitoring Plan, Landfill Gas Management Plan, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.
